SUMMARY:Preserving Guilford's Character: What are our tools?
DESCRIPTION:Guilford’s Town Plan\, 2022-2030\, states in the ‘Settlements and Land Use’ section that\n“residents envision a town that maintains its rural character; protects its natural\nresources..” This aspiration is deeply rooted in residents’ love of Guilford\, its history and\nits land.\nRecently much attention has been drawn to the housing shortage in Vermont. The state\nis actively exploring means to expand housing availability. Potentially this could mean\nthat there is interest in increasing the housing stock in Guilford. As a community we\nwould be better positioned to preserve what is cherished by learning what tools Towns\ncan employ to shape growth.\nThe public is invited to an information seminar: “Preserving Guilford’s Character: What\nare our tools?” presented by Matt Bachler\, Senior Planner\, Windham Regional\nCommission on Thursday\, November 2 at 6:30 pm at the Broad Brook Community\nCenter. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 11\, 2023 – 10AM to 2PMBroad Brook Community Center – 3940 Guilford Center Road \n\n\n\nThis is a community-building event that will help the Strategic Planning Process prioritize what matters in Guilford. We will dig deeper into our values\, Guilford’s scenic and natural world\, and traditional land uses. We will focus on creating a vision that clearly identifies what we want to maintain\, evolve\, or transform.  \n\n\n\nHow it works: There will be 6 Topic Tables\, which will start at the times listed below. After a short presentation\, and for the rest of the workshop time\, we’ll mix hands-on mapping with an exploration of how Guilford’s history\, and its future\, are shaped by its people\, forests\, fields\, and hamlets. \n\n\n\nTOPIC START TIMES:10:00 – Welcome and Introduction10:30 – Physical Connections11:00 – Business and Economic Vitality11:30 – Land Use Planning12:00 – OPEN HOUSE and Lunch12:30 – Public Facilities and Recreation1:00 – Community Communications1:30 – Health and Wellbeing2:00 – “Report Out” from the Tables\, Summary\, Closing \n\n\n\nWe will answer: What should the Town invest in to Preserve the Future in Guilford\, to strengthen local connections: social\, business\, physical\, natural. Members of the Planning Commission and the consultant team from DuBois & King will keep building on “what we’ve heard” in the Strategic Planning Process so far. Please stop in any time.
