THURSDAY 19 JUNE 9:30 a.m.

CARPENTER CEMETERY

Cemetery Commissioners Present:

Nancy Detra, Eric Morse, Carol Schnabel

Absent:

Eric Feindel, Kyle Parker

Selectboard Liaison Present:

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 9:40 a.m.

Recognition of Public:

We welcomed Dale, Emery, and Bennett Morse.

Additions or Changes to Order of Agenda:

Agenda correction- it should have read “19 June 2025.”

Add: discussion of 911 addresses for cemeteries.

Add: Stark Cemetery.

Old Business:

We looked at and talked about saplings and other trees at Carpenter Cemetery.  We need to get more information from Kyle.

New Business:

Review of June 7 VOCA work day:

There were 27 volunteers that Carol had names for.  Nicole Vecchi sent a printed sheet on the proper way to clean gravestones.  Carol emailed that to everyone.  Charlie Marchant volunteered to write up instructions on straightening stones.  He is also willing to come back sometime on a good weather day to show us how to repair stones.  Nicole is willing to come and dowse for burial sites at some point.  Halifax is interested in contacting her so we might try to piggyback on that date.  Nicole also repairs severely broken stones.  It would be no sooner than 2026 if we decided to ask her to do that. 

Charlie asked that we submit an article to the VOCA newsletter.  Nancy and Carol will write something for that and for the Gazette.

911 Addresses:

All accessible cemeteries in Guilford except for Colgrove and Guilford Center now have 911 addresses.  Carol will get in touch with Lisa about getting those last two.  We discussed whether we should put numbers up. 

We discussed access to Stark Cemetery and decided to meet there in July and invite the adjoining property owner. 

Adjournment:

The business meeting was adjourned at 9:58 a.m. and we worked on cleaning stones until 11:00 a.m.
