GUILFORD CEMETERY COMMISSION MEETING

THURSDAY 18 SEPTEMBER 2025 9:30 a.m.

BLANCHARD CEMETERY

Cemetery Commissioners Present:

Nancy Detra, Eric Morse, Carol Schnabel

Absent:

Kyle Parker, Eric Feindel

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 9:45 a.m.

Approval of Minutes:

The August minutes were approved as submitted.

Old Business:

We briefly discussed the tree removal.  Kyle communicated with us before the meeting that he has a new person who plans to look at the tree.  We wondered if any experts could tell us how likely it is that the tree will fall soon?  We talked about perhaps starting with pruning, not cutting it down.  We also again wondered about how to get the equipment to the site.  Eric mentioned that Dan Ingold might have some ideas.

There is a grave that has a temporary marker.  Eric plans to get in touch with a member of that family.

New Business:

The next VOCA meeting is September 27 in Benson VT.  The topic will be genealogy.

Eric brought an interesting article in the latest Vermont Country Magazine.  It is about the oldest cemetery in Vermont, which is next to the Bennington Museum, as well as about other old historic Vermont cemeteries and gravestone carvers and designs.

Due to paving on the Guilford Center Road we had to park further away and so we didn’t carry in tools to clean stones.
