Guilford Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes    5.16.2024

Attending: Linda Hecker, Linda Lembke, Susan Bonthron, Steve Soszynzki, Bevan Quinn, Anne Montgomery, Bill Jewell, Karen Murphy

Meeting called to order at 5:40. 
No changes to agenda order.

On motion the minutes from April 18, 2024 were unanimously accepted.

Planning upcoming walks:
Our first walk is May 19 at 10 AM. The walk is to an old orchard and the surrounding area which is of interest in the Natural Resources Inventory. 
On June 9th we will be exploring Steve Soszynski’s property which is home to various wildlife.

The trails committee reported on what is phase 1 of the extension of the Weeks Forest Carriage Trail on the New England Forestry Foundation property. Several members hiked the extension on May 13th. Next will be mapping out the proposed trail.

Guilford Handbook: There was a meeting of the handbook committee recently and they are hoping to have the handbook ready by October 15th

Conservation Fund:
Two GCC board members met with Elly Majonen, the town treasurer, to inquire how to invest the fund and to also make it easily available. People may donate to this fund. 
The guidelines for the fund are ready and will be submitted to the selectboard for review.

Work date: Weeks Forest Carriage Trail is August 15th

Plans are ongoing to meet with the VLT, VRC, and the Green Mountain Conservancy to discuss land conservation. 

Linda Lembke and Karen reported on the meeting with Julie Holland about the Guilford Listening Session. Of particular importance is housing for older Guilford residents.

Other business: It was decided to install two more Wildlife Corridor signs at either end of Weatherhead Hollow Pond. We also approved a seasonal sign on the Hinesburg Rd. 

The next meeting is June 20 at 5:30 at the town office
