How to Run for the March 3rd Local Election

Positions Up for Re-Election:

Selectboard:            one 2-year Term & one 3-year Term
Town Clerk:              one 3-year Term
Town Lister:             one 3-year Term
Town Auditor:          one 3-year Term

Petition for Candidacy:
If you are a legally registered voter in the Town of Guilford and interested in running for local election of town offices in the Town of Guilford, you must submit the Petition for Candidacy form and the Consent of Candidate form to the Town Clerk. These forms are available at the town office or can be downloaded from the links below.

The Petition of Candidacy form and Consent of Candidate must be filed with the Town Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on the sixth Monday (1/26/26) preceding the election. The Petition for Candidacy form must be signed by no fewer than 1% of the registered voters (no fewer than 19 registered voters in 2026). Pursuant to 17 V.S.A. § 2681.

Timeline:
January 26th, 2026
(Sixth Monday before election) 5:00 PM deadline for filing with the town clerk a written consent form for the candidate’s name to be on the Australian ballot for local office.

*Note that petitions can be turned in at any point before the 1/26/25 deadline.

January 27th, 2025
(Within 24 hours of receipt of petition) Town clerk must return nominating petitions found not to conform, stating in writing the reasons why they cannot be accepted.

January 28th, 2025
(Wednesday after filing deadline) 5:00 p.m. deadline for candidates for town office to file supplementary petitions if initial petition was not accepted, or to withdraw after they have consented to be nominated for town office.
