Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes 11.13.24
In Attendance:
Meghan A, Kelsy A, Taylor F, Ragan B, and Elina K
Changes to agenda – Megan to add thoughts on potential garden tour and partnering with BBCC on future activities
Follow-up re: Trunk-or-Treat:
- Went well; well attended. 10 trunks participated. Kept families and kids occupied.
- Hour set up/45 min breakdown
- Budget = spent ~$100. Ashley spent ?
- Families had fun. Activities were fun for kids
- For next year would be nice to have more people involved. Note to ask for volunteers from community to help with event next year. Email or post to social media in advance for 2025 event. Also ask around at GCS.
Check in re yoga:
- 3rd session happened the weekend prior to meeting.
- Attendance has been steadily increasing – asks to have it weekly instead of every-other-week
- Teacher is going to try to make this possible with her schedule
- Space is almost too small for amount of participants
- Ask for rec commission to spend $232 from commission budget for yoga supplies (mats, blocks, straps) to support community members coming.
- Commission votes YES to spending the funds.
- Donations are accepted and are used to pay the instructor (who has insurance as required by town)
- Question about possible meditation group
- Commission will follow up with instructor
Walking group and word games group at library:
- No attendees yet.
- Megan will continue to keep them going for now and continually promote the groups
- No cost involved – an opportunity to create community if folks want to attend
Ski lending program:
- Send out email to ask for volunteers
- Ragan volunteering to help with lending and distributing skis
- Meghan to help with connecting folks who might be able to give ski lessons
- Pick up skis this year at the shed by the library
- Need to find document for ski sign-ups from prior years. Meghan will send log-in info to rec commission email where the document lives.
- Sign-up sheet to be distributed in school newsletter, FPF, social media, homeschool group, and library
- Elina has heard from a family willing to donate a pair of old skis to the program
Question of whether rec commission can host a day of available ski trails and lessons
- Rec commission Winter Fest could be an opportunity
- Cancelled last 2 years due to lack of snow
- Commission in agreement to host Winter Fest (sledding, skiing, hot chocolate, ice/snow sculptures, snowshoeing…)
- Date = JAN 18th (rain day = weekend of Jan 25-27)
- Taylor offered snowmobile-groomed trails on the Franklin Farm or fairgrounds for skiing as long as there’s enough snow
Question about garden tour interest
- Meghan to email community about interest for next summer garden tour
- Neighborhood roots previously tried to host garden tours but doesn’t have plans for 2025
- Additional interest in swapping gardening knowledge and resources
