Early & Absentee Voting
Absentee Ballots are officially available for Guilford’s Local Election
Voters can vote early in person at the Guilford Town Office or by mail.
Request an absentee ballot online via the Vermont Voter Portal (https://vote.vermont.gov) Prefer paper? Download the early/absentee ballot request form, fill it out, then return it to the town office. There are also Absentee Ballots available at the Town office. You can request a ballot and vote on the same day or take it home and turn it in before the election is over.
You do not need to request a general election ballot. Vermont automatically mails ballots to all qualified voters by October 1 of each even-numbered year. This mailing is required by state law. Allowing time for postal delivery, you should receive your ballot in the first half of October. Visit the Vermont Voter Portal to check the mail date and other information.
You can check the status of your ballot, including the date it was mailed to you, online at the Vermont Voter Portal.
Military and Overseas Voter Early/Absentee Ballot Requests
To register to vote and request an early/absentee ballot, visit the Vermont Voter Portal.
Military or overseas voters may also request an absentee ballot by telephone, fax, email, or by mail. You may also request that the unvoted ballot and certificate for the return envelope be sent to you by email, fax, or mail. If you have the ballot and certificate sent by email or fax, the clerk will include instructions for you. However, under Vermont law, voted ballots must be returned to the town clerk inside the absentee certificate envelope (with the voter’s original signature). Voted ballots may not be returned by fax or email.
For more voting information for military and/or overseas voters, please visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
In-home Ballot Delivery
If you are sick or have a disability, a ballot can be delivered to your home on Election Day. You may request an absentee ballot up until 5 p.m. on the day before the election. Two justices of the peace (of different parties when possible) will deliver a ballot to you and then will bring the ballot back to the polling place so that it can be placed in the ballot box and counted.
Deadlines
Be sure your ballot is counted! Return your ballot to your town clerk’s office before the office closes on the day before the election or bring it to your polling place before 7 p.m. on Election Day.
All requests for absentee ballots must be submitted by 5 p.m. or by the closure of the town clerk’s office on the day before the election.
Your town clerk will contact you if there’s something you need to fix (cure) for your ballot to be counted. Read more about defective ballots.
