Update on Land Posting
Dear Guilford Residents,
The Department of Fish and Wildlife sent a letter signed by Colonel Justin Stedman, the current Chief Warden, to all Vermont Town Clerks. In this letter the Chief Warden acknowledged that contradictory information was shared by Warden Services about Land Posting.
First there was a clarification that all land postings are only valid for the calendar year which means January 1st through December 31st, 10 VSA § 5201(c). This has been the law since 1961. Therefore, if you paid for a Land Posting at any point this year (2025) the Posting is only valid until December 31st, 2025.
Knowing that Land Postings are only valid for the calendar year, it is important that all Land Posting Signs are dated for the current year, 10 VSA § 5201(b). A sign dated 2025/2026 would not be legal in 2026. The signs would need to be dated in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
