FIREWOOD PRODUCTION
Learn what the old timers know, explore handy tools and techniques, practice useful staging, splitting, stacking, and drying methods
max people = 9, age 16+, $275 pp
- Selection & collection: wood types, forest improvement basics, staging & pre-drying before processing
- Bucking & splitting: manual and powered tool use, avoiding injuries
- Leave with your own firewood gauge and marking tool for your size firewood (typ. 14, 16, 18, or 20 in)
- Stacking: observe and practice creating classical stacking styles – running row, square, sun-wall, and holzhausen (carousel)
- Tips and tales to deepen appreciation for the forest and the firewoood
- “Meet the Forest” mindfulness and gratitude practice of your choice held at the outset
Required Gear: approved chainsaw chaps or pants, boots, protection for vision, head, and hearing, work gloves (opt.). Bring your own gas or electric saw in good running condition, or use one of ours. Note: this workshop can also be taken without operating a chainsaw, in which case PPE required is work clothes, sturdy shoes, and work gloves (opt.).
