Vision: Guilford residents envision a town that maintains its rural character, protects its natural resources, and provides viable living, education, and economic opportunities to sustain us well into the 21st century.
–Town Plan, 2022-2030
Vermont has taken action to modernize its approach to regional and municipal planning via recently passed legislation. Taken together, these actions encourage the development of more housing where supported by infrastructure, establish a statewide conservation plan, transfer regulation of river corridors to the state, and prioritize the conservation of wetlands. The goal is to more intentionally plan for future land use in ways that integrate conservation, flood safety, compact settlements as well as identify gaps and needs for infrastructure investment to make resilient community development possible.[1]
These statewide goals and actions align with Guilford’s vision for it’s future. The challenge of this moment is to become informed of the changes to Vermont’s regulatory landscape and assess the definite and possible impacts on Guilford. The Planning Commission will use this space to provide information regarding legislation and other initiatives with an emphasis on their significance for the Town.
