Conservation Commission Special Meeting Agenda

The Guilford Conservation Commission is holding a special extra meeting in January, following our participation in a joint regional meeting last week on our regularly scheduled third Thursday of the month. This meeting will focus on working with naturalist Patti Smith on next steps for the Natural Resource Inventory which she conducted.  Note the early start time (5:00 pm) to accommodate Patti who is currently in a different time zone.

The Guilford Conservation Commission will participate in a Regional Meeting of Conservation Groups on January 19, 2023, in lieu of our regularly scheduled meeting on the third Thursday of the month.  This semi-annual event is sponsored by Windham Regional Commission.   • Presentation: Climate Change and Land Use. Presented by the Energy Coordinator and Planner from the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission
    • In response to requests from their Energy Committees and Planning Commissions, Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission created a paper called Climate Change and Land Use that provides municipalities with guidance on how to amend land use regulations to limit low density sprawl, enable compact walkable neighborhoods, and protect the working and natural landscape to ensure climate change resilience. They will share their findings and strategies on how Climate Change and Land Use intersect.

Watching Wildlife in Your Backyard

Do you wonder about the wildlife that moves through your land?
Would you like to learn more about using trail cameras to observe the movements and behaviors of the wild animals that live in your fields and forests? 

If so, please join the Guilford Conservation Commission for our first program at the new BBCC. Conservation Commission member Steve Soszynski and environmental educator Jimmy Karlan have over 12 years of combined experience using trail cameras to observe wildlife on their properties in two different parts of Guilford. They will share some of their favorite photos and videos of animals on their land and offer tips about setting up and working with trail cameras.
