GUILFORD CEMETERY COMMISSION MEETING
THURSDAY 18 APRIL 2024  9:30 AM BLANCHARD CEMETERY

Cemetery Commissioners Present:
Eric Feindel, Kyler Parker, Carol Schnabel

Absent:
Nancy Detra, Eric Morse

Selectboard Liaison:
Verandah Porche

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m.

Approval of Minutes:
The minutes were approved as submitted.

New Business:
We looked around the cemetery and saw the condition of the tree that needs to be removed.  We moved a number of broken slates out of the area around the tree trunk. 

We assigned cemeteries for us to look at before the next meeting to decide where we should be putting our efforts this summer.

We arranged for the flags to be distributed at the May meeting.  

Old Business:
We discussed the tree removal.  

Carol up-dated us on the website corrections.  

There were 2 cemetery plots purchased and the buyers discovered that in addition to the $400 price per plot, there is a $15 recording fee.  We should remember to tell people about that.  

We intend to do more work on the cemetery records during the cold weather months.  

Kyle has been spending a lot of time researching at the Town Office.  

He also spoke to Cynthia Clark about the Guilford Center Cemetery history.  She gave him information about Wilkins 2.  Eric Morse has offered to show us Wilkins 2 sometime.  

Discussions, up-dates:
The person who inquired about a cemetery plot recently has not responded to our email.

The VOCA meeting is Saturday May 4 at St. Peter’s Parish Hall in Vergennes.  The guest speaker, Anne Donahue, will talk about her efforts to preserve the Waterbury State Hospital Burying Ground.  

Verandah talked about the issue of all the various Trusts that the Town manages and perhaps something could be done to consolidate them.  This is not Cemetery Commission business per se, but it applies to the monies used at the Guilford Center Cemetery.  

Actions to be Taken:
Cemetery assignments- to be checked on before the May meeting:

Verandah: Groll, Billings
Carol: Lee, Carpenter, Wilkins Hill
Nancy: Stark
Kyle: Maplehurst, Elmhurst
Eric F.: Weatherhead Hollow

Kyle will leave a note for the homeowner whom he has not be able to reach about the tree work we hope to get done.  

Carol will bring the flags to our next meeting,

Verandah will get in touch with VLCT to ask about those Trusts. 

Verandah will bring gravestone cleaner to next meeting.  We should bring gloves.  Someone volunteered to bring water.  

Kyle will bring the sign for the Carpenter Cemetery so that we can install it.  He also will put up the signs at Maplehurst and Elmhurst.
