Conservation Commission Minutes  1.25.2024

Attending: Linda Hecker, Linda Lembke, Bill Jewell, Anne Montgomery, Steve Soszynski, Susan Bonthron, Bevan Quinn, Karen Murphy

Meeting called to order at 5:30 via Zoom.
Minutes from November 16, 2023 accepted unanimously.

Agenda Changes:
Time sensitive issues moved to top of agenda.

  • Reply to Erika Elder that the GCC would like a table at town meeting.
  • Reply to Ada Brown about GCC events at the BBCC.
  • Report from Linda Lembke and Karen about the joint meeting on January 21 with members from the Recreation Commission, Planning Commissions and interested residents. Meghan Arthur presented the findings of the Recreation Commission survey. The top priority from the survey was trail development.

Recruitment of new members:
Following our guidelines from the fall we discussed how we might recruit new commissioners.

Wildlife Corridor signage: There is uncertainty as to when the signs will be posted. 

The Conservation Fund was approved by the selectboard recently. 

Priorities for the coming year:

  • Communicate with Guilford residents about land stewardship benefits and practices
  • Establish protocols for Conservation Fund
  • Recruit new member, potential replacement members and develop orientation process
  • Keep current with proposed Act 250 regulations and other state-level initiatives
  • Continue to collaborate with other organizations: Historical Society on cultural resources map; Recreation Commission on Trails; Planning Commission on Guilford Handbook

Other business:
Discussion of the Guilford Handbook and what the GCC would like included.
Collaboration with the Historical Society and the Friends of the Library to develop presentations and field trips.

Next meeting is February 15 at 5:30.
Meeting adjourned by unanimous vote at 6:40.
