Green River Covered Bridge Alternatives Study
In light of the June 3, 2014 load rating reduction on the Green River Covered Bridge (GRCB) from 8 tons to 4 tons, the Guilford Selectboard contracted the services of Hoyle, Tanner & Associates (HTA) to perform an alternatives analysis for crossings within a .5 mile radius of the GRCB, including the evaluation of the bridge itself to handle heavier loads. The goal of this analysis was to determine which alternatives are indeed feasible and the pros, cons and estimated costs of each.
On Monday, October 6, 2014 in a public meeting held at the Grange, the engineers of HTA presented the results of their study. Please open the file below to view the presentation from this meeting. Additionally included below is a file containing the full report of the study.
Green River Covered Bridge – TA Program Final Plans
The document below contains the Final Plans for the Green River Covered Bridge Rehabilitation Project that was originally scheduled to go to construction in 2014. The Project was deferred by the Guilford Selectboard due to the load rating on the bridge being reduced from 8-tons to 4-tons. Many options were explored to remedy the limitations that the GRCB presently presents; these explorations were formalized in an Alternative Analysis performed by the engineering firm of Hoyel, Tanner & Associates.
During their regular meeting on November 10, 2014, the Board unanimously voted to move ahead with measures required to return the bridge’s load rating to 8-tons. This will require that the “Final Plans” be revised to include the new scope of work defined to accomplish this. The Plans are for reference purposes only and are not to be considered final in any way.
