Guilford Recreation Commission Minutes 

12/11/24

Members Present: 

Meghan Arthur, Kelsy Allan, Taylor Franklin 

No updates to agenda 

Missed deadline for requesting funds for 2025, but we have about $5,000 to use in coiffers which rolls over to 2025. This will be enough to support the commission through 2025. Might need money for signs for Guilford garden tour, but shouldn’t be more than the available funds. 

Garden tour: there are community volunteers interested in helping put together a garden tour. Meghan happy to take the lead on organizing. One person from previous garden tour ~15 years ago wants to help for 2025 tour. Meghan to host Feb meeting with interested volunteers to help coordinate. 

Ski lending program:

Date for distribution is Friday 12/13. Might need to promote more. Will post to social media evening of 12/11. 

Cross country ski lesson contact is not available. Have reached out to Brattleboro Outing Club who will put the commission in touch with potential instructors. Can also coordinate with families at GCS to see if there are available volunteers to coach ski lessons there. Holding off on potential cross country ski day in Guilford until there’s a bigger snow base. 

Yoga program going well – consistently get about 14 people every time. Instructor is excited. Moving to weekly yoga programs at the BBCC in January. Continuously increasing in attendance numbers. Space might max out about 20 people. Donations make it worthwhile for the instructor. 

Fiber arts group initial inquiry went well – lots of interested community members. Meghan will continue pursuing a time/place to host that and organize it.

Winter fest: wait until January and see what snow conditions are like. Will only host if there’s snow and ice. Will discuss more at the January meeting and plan at that time. 

Potential to get a day at the Brattleboro Ski Hill hosted by the Rec Commission. Need to discuss what it might cost/ential to rent the ski hill for a day. 

Annual report: Due for 2025. Need to report on all activities the rec com did in fiscal year 2024. Short and sweet. 

All activities: 

Yoga group – started oct bi-weekly. Increasing to weekly starting in January.

Trunk-or-treat in Oct 

Sat morning weekly walking group

Word games at library weekly

Cross country ski lending program – skis distributed Dec 

Bike Night 

Wake up the earth spring festival

Jan 8th  = next rec commission meeting. Meghan to run meeting. Need to have a substitute host for Feb while Meghan is out.
