HOW TO VOTE IN THE NOVEMBER 5, 2024 ELECTION

TIMELINE

  • September 23 – October 1, 2024 – The State will mail out Ballots on a rolling basis to all active and qualified voters registered in Vermont by 9/3/24. Each day, an issue date will be entered into VEMS (VT Elections Management System) for any voters who are mailed a ballot on the date their ballot is sent
  • After 9/3/24, Town Clerks must process any new absentee ballot requests, new registrations, or new voter transfers received and mail out the related ballots.
  • If you are in the military or overseas and you have not requested a ballot, please do so immediately so you can receive a ballot. The deadline for this request was 9/20/24, but the Town Clerk will do their best to get a ballot to you. The fastest way would be through electronic delivery.
  • If you are sick or have a disability, a ballot can be delivered to your home. You may request an absentee ballot up until 5 p.m. on the day before the election. Two justices of the peace will deliver a ballot to you, and then will bring the ballot back to Town Clerk, to be processed with all other ballots and be counted.
  • Note: Voters under 18 who will not turn 18 between now and the General Election are ineligible to cast a ballot. Adults who have not taken the voter’s oath will need to do so in order to cast a ballot in the election.
  • If you transferred your registration from another town to Guilfordafter September 3, there are several steps you may have to take before providing them a new ballot:
    • If you did not receive the ballot, you should sign the Affidavit of No Ballot Cast (Appendix N) and you may be mailed or cast a ballot after you do so.
    • If you have received the ballot but have not voted it yet, you should return it to the Town Clerk, or sign the affidavit, before being provided a ballot from the Guilford Town Clerk.
    • If you have received and cast the ballot in the previous town, you should be informed you cannot cast another ballot in the election in the Town of Guilford.
