Guilford Recreation Commission Meeting Notes

In attendance:
Commissioners: U. Najera, E. Peters, K. Allan, R. Anderson, T. Franklin
Public at large: M. Bialkin

Updates on existing programs:
• Yoga continues to go well and is well attended

• New language groups at the library have started every other Sunday 3-4. Inaugural meet-up was spanish, led by Uriel. Good attendance/attendees enjoyed it. Next meet-up is ASL on 2/1, led by Kelsy. Kelsy and Uriel to meet and discuss best practices for leading the groups.

•Ski lending program successfully taken on by library. A volunteer has checked all skis for needed maintenance and cleared them all to be used this season. Volunteer will continue to check/provide necessary maintenance on skis at the start of each ski season. Ragan is helping patrons check out skis by providing lock code access as needed. Families have already checked out some skis. Uriel to check in with library and help facilitate sign outs.

New business:
•Winterfest. Last year it was low key. Attended by ~15 people. Goals are to provide an opportunity for community get together and hang out with snacks. Potential to host at the playscape/weeks first in collaboration with the BBCC cookie swap on Sunday, Feb 15. Potential activities = sledding, games with Ellen, pizza/smores/fire…Uriel to reach out to Ada for confirmation.

•Craft supply swap Jan 25th. In tandem with the craft group at BBCC. Megan has been publicizing.

•Meditation group. Ragan hoping to get this started in a few months.

•Town meeting presence. Rec commission to get a table for publicizing ongoing and future events. Set up/table an hour before town meeting (~9am). Ragan will make a poster. Taylor can help float during town meeting.

•Guilford town talent show. Uriel discussing with Ada, hoping to have in August with a silent auction.

•Madi Bialkin potentially interested in joining the commission. Process for joining includes writing a short paragraph of interest to send to selectboard and commission.
