Recreation Commission Minutes, 05.09.2024

Guilford Recreation Commission Meeting
Thursday, May 9, 2024 

Commissioners attending: Mary Wallace-Collins, Meghan Arthur, Elina Koumjian, Ashley Kane, Kelsy Allan, Chris Zappala, Verandah Porche (Selectboard liaison)

I. Call to Order:  6:31pm

II. New Additions:  The topic of how to deal with an increased amount of dog excrement not being picked up at the Playscape was added to the agenda

Ill. Changes to Agenda:  see above

lV. Approval of Minutes for April:  minutes were unanimously approved

V. Finances: The Commission has $3,300 in its account.

VI. Old Business: 

    Wake up the earth hunt this Saturday May 11: Details of the celebration were discussed and commissioners volunteered for assignments 
      Ski return Any participants who have not yet returned skis and equipment will be contacted.
     Bike night – The date of the upcoming annual Bike Night was discussed. It was decided Bike Night would be held on Friday, June28.
Since this is well after school finishes the year. Commissioners will seek to hold Bike Night at the Fairgrounds. The event will run 4 pm to 6pm.
Pizza and drinks will be served. Commissioner are exploring additional activities.

VII. New Business:
   July 4th and other activities at the BBCC: The Recreation Commission will be exploring how it can add to the Guilford Town celebration of the Fourth of July. Also, the BBCC will be holding Community Nights, the first being June 21st. Meghan MacArthur requested to purchase an outdoor Jenga game and a Cornhole game for the event. A motion was presented, seconded, and approved unanimously.
   Evaluating the Commission’s existing internet accounts: The existing accounts, set up by the founding members, is charging money at various rates, depending on usage, averaging about $20 a month. It is not clear that this arrangement is needed any longer. Mary and Meghan are working on canceling the account.
  Unsupervised Dogs at the Playscape: This discussion was added at the start of the meeting because unsupervised dogs belonging to a neighboring household are being allowed to run in the Playscape without any policing of the dog droppings. The Commission discussed adding signs, providing bags to dispose of the waste properly, and approaching the residence to explain the problem.
