Announcement of Interim Town Clerk

On Monday evening, 8/26/24, the Guilford Selectboard appointed Elly Majonen as Interim Guilford Town Clerk. Elly stepped forward with a proposal to manage both the Town Treasurer and Town Clerk roles by splitting her current 40 hours per week and utilizing the skills and availability of other current part-time staff to cover all duties and responsibilities. 

Elly served as Assistant Town Clerk under Penny Marine and is familiar with and has performed recording and maintaining land records, working an election, maintaining the Voter Checklist, and providing the myriad of Town Clerk services such as processing dog licenses, marriage licenses, fish & game licenses, land postings, etc.

There is much to be done in the upcoming weeks. Immediate priorities include:

  • Preparation for the November General Election on November 5  (just over nine weeks away)
    • Meet all election statutory deadlines
    • Publicize critical voter November election information (procedures, date)
    • Attend trainings for Town Clerks / Elections, ready the equipment
    • Collaborate  with the BCA to create a plan for processing ballots and schedule for polling. 
  • Process the current backlog of land recordings (access and review process, enter, record, update)
  • Financial issues
    • Receive and process property tax payments and delinquent taxes
    • Maintain weekly financial protocols and reporting

Office hours will be: Monday-Thursday, 7:00am-5:00pm. With the Selectboard, the staff will  review progress regularly in order to best serve our community.
