Conservation Commission Minutes from 10.22.26

GCC Meeting Notes
The Guilford Conservation Commission held their monthly meeting on October 22, at the Town
Office and via zoom. (Meeting was moved from the third Thursday to the fourth to avoid a
member conflict.)

The meeting was called to order at 5:37 pm.
Present: Linda Hecker, Susan Bonthron, Alex Lacy, Steve Soszynski, Anne Montgomery, Bill
Jewell, Josh Farr. Absent: Katie Shea.

No adjustments to the agenda were needed.
September minutes were approved.

Time sensitive items:
Budget Request for coming year: We unanimously agreed to ask the town for $850 for FY2027.

Programming/Activities
● Steve will take on the production and deployment of 4 turtle crossing signs.
● We discussed a series of educational outreach programs, one of which might be a group
visit to the Caterpillar Lab, or possibly a Tiny Grant funded visit of the lab to the BBCC.
We appointed a programming committee (Linda Hecker, Anne Montgomery & Alex Lacy)
to look into possibilities.
● Susan agreed to look at and create a draft for a revised Mission statement.
Weeks Forest update:
● Steve took care of cutting up a downed tree.
● Susan agreed to create a new Trail Register.

EAVCC updates:
● Linda will submit a request to renew the AVCC membership for $50.
● Tiny Grants: We discussed some possibilities but made no decisions.

Extractigator at the library: updates
● Alex suggested a possible program that could combine teaching the use of the
extractigator (with removal and disposal of invasives) along the Green River and planting
seeds of native plants that could replace the invasives (and discourage reinfestation).

The meeting was adjourned at 7pm.
Respectfully submitted by Susan Bonthron, Joint secretary
