GUILFORD CEMETERY COMMISSION MEETING

THURSDAY 20 AUGUST 2026  9:30 a.m.

Cemetery Commissioners Present:

Nancy Detra, Eric Morse, Carol Schnabel

Absent:

Eric Feindel

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 9:39 a.m.

Approval of Minutes:

The minutes from July were approved as submitted.

Old Business:

Carol said that Kyle checked on the cost of buying numbers for cemetery signs and the price has gone up so he will look elsewhere.  It was suggested that we just buy them from the fire department so we will consider that too.

Nancy and Carol will send Uriel a write up for him to post about seeking a new commissioner.

Carol thanked Nancy for her article in the Gazette about the Blanchard tree removal.  She also thanked Eric for the photos.

Carol contacted the company that sells us the cemetery flags and they have sent the current prices to Uriel. 

New Business:

Sheila up-dated us on the budget process.  She is working with Elly to make sure we have the actual numbers for FY 26 and YTD for FY 27.  We should have our request ready for the Selectboard by mid October.  Sheila will send us a memo about all of this.

Carol reported that the current VOCA newsletter has an article about a search that the state is planning to do on a private property that is near the Brattleboro Retreat and may contain 40 or more unmarked and abandoned gravesites of former inmates. 

VOCA’s next meeting is September 26 in Cornwall VT.

We looked around the cemetery.  It is in great condition.  We cleaned a few stones.
