Guilford Planning Commission Seeks Members!
Are you interested in the future of our town? Interested in framing smart, desirable outcomes for Guilford’s next 50 years? Consider joining the Planning Commission. We seek community volunteers ready to build connections to advance a strong, vibrant future for our town.
On the Planning Commission, you will learn about community building within the context of local and state statutes, about collective planning and consensus building, about the very real truths and pressures facing Guilford now. And you will work with your colleagues to develop workable visions for our treasured community.
Following are some of the duties of Planning Commissioners as defined in the Vermont State Statutes (24 V.S.A. Chapter 117):
- Prepare a municipal plan and amendments for consideration by the Selectboard and review amendments initiated by others.
- Prepare and present to the Selectboard proposed bylaws and make recommendations on proposed amendments
- Undertake studies and make recommendations on matters of land development, urban renewal, transportation, economic and social development, urban beautification and design improvements, historic and scenic preservation, the conservation of energy, the development of renewable energy resources and wetland protection
- Prepare and present to the Selectboard recommended building, plumbing, fire, electrical, housing, and related codes and enforcement procedures, and construction specifications for roads and related public improvements
- Hold public meetings
Interested in serving on your Planning Commission? Send a Letter of Interest to the Selectboard via mail or email. In one brief paragraph, tell us why you wish to serve and, in another, give a sense of any particular qualifications (a passion for Guilford counts!). Deadline: Wednesday, November 24, 4:00 p.m.
Thank you.
