BOARD OF TAX ABATEMENT
GUILFORD, VERMONT

The Board of Abatement is hereby noticed to meet to consider the following request for abatement of part of the taxes, water charges, sewer charges, interest, and/or penalties due, on Tuesday, Dec. 19th at 6:30 pm, located at the Guilford Town Office (236 School Road) and will be accessible via Zoom.

Taxpayer(s) should appear and be ready to present their evidence at the date and time of this meeting. They are not required to attend, but keep in mind that if they fail to attend/join the meeting, their abatement request will be decided based on the information submitted in their Abatement Hearing Request.

AGENDA

  1. Call to order.
  2. Elect Board of Abatement Chair/Vice Chair
  3. The Chair will conduct abatement hearings in the following sequence:
    a. Open the hearing, stating the name of the applicant, property location, and parcel ID number.
    b. Ask the applicant and witnesses to take the following oath:
    “Under the pains and penalties of perjury, do you solemnly swear that the evidence you
    give in the cause under consideration shall be the whole truth and nothing but the
    truth?”
    c. Request Board members to disclose any conflict of interest that exists.
    d. Ask the applicant to identify the statutory abatement category under which the abatement request is being made. These categories are set out at 24 V.S.A. § I535 (a) (1)-(9).
    e. Allow the applicant to present verbal and documentary evidence supporting the abatement request to the Board.
    f. Invite questions from the Board.
    g. Close the hearing and explain that the Board will enter deliberative session and will issue a written decision within 30 days of the hearing.
