Trails Committee Meeting minutes 

May 1, 2024 

Attendees: Alex Dossin, Chair, Jeannette Tokarz, Clerk, 
Members of the Pubic: Jeff Nugent (WRC), Marshall Banas, David Eastman, William Jewell, Brian King, Lynn King 

Alex proposed that the Guilford Trails Committee identify itself as an organization devoted to creating/maintaining trails intended for non-motorized use. The primary users will be pedestrians/hikers. 

A short term goal of the Committee will focus on improving an existing trail as a test case, a learning opportunity and demonstration of what a Trails Committee can achieve. 

In developing or improving new trails the group will be sensitive to habitat preservation and wildlife conservation. The Guilford Natural Resources Inventory provides invaluable information regarding sensitive wildlife corridors and high priority habitats for conservation. 

Marshall generously offered to lend his expertise and machinery to the group to assist in trail creation if needed. 

One suggestion made was to engage residents in scheduled trail walk events, likely in partnership with the Recreation Commission. 

For its first survey of a potential trail expansion the Committee will explore a Weeks Forest Trail extension. The next meeting will be a Walking Meeting on Monday, May 13 at 6 pm. Attendees should gather at 6 pm prepared to walk on the trail. Rain date is Monday, May 20.
