GUILFORD CEMETERY COMMISSION MEETING
Thursday 11 May 2023 9:30 am Maplehurst Cemetery

Cemetery Commissioners Present:
Nancy Detra, Eric Morse, Kyle Parker, Verandah Porche, Carol Schnabel

Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 am

Approval of Minutes:
The minutes were approved as submitted.

New Business:
Mowing- Rory Lincoln has taken over the mowing business from Peter Hannan and we approved him.

VOCA work day in Halifax:  June 3 2023 (rain date June 4).  West Halifax Cemetery Restoration Work Party.  Help needed to clean and restore the grounds.  Meet at the (Community) Hall at 9:00 am.  Contact: Gary Rand Grand221@gmail.com or 860-558-3565.  A good opportunity to help neighbors and learn.

We distributed flags to put on veteran’s graves before Memorial Day.

Carol reported on her meeting with veterans at the Legion- they had lots of ideas about how to document better the veterans in our town cemeteries.  

We assessed the condition of Maplehurst and Elmhurst Cemeteries.  There is a newly broken stone.

Old Business:
Nancy presented the completed and printed brochure and handed out copies- it looks great.  They will be available at the Town Office.  

Kyle showed us a sample of what the cemetery signs will look like.  We approved making them for all of the Town cemeteries.  

We discussed the tree that needs to be removed by Carpenter Cemetery.  Electric Company will need to deal with it.  Also we talked about fixing the stone that is buried too far down in Carpenter Cemetery.  

We are holding off on making the flag holders from PVC pipes until we have a better idea how much the plastic ones would cost.  

Actions to be Taken:
Kyle will coordinate cemetery maintenance in the future.

Wilkins, Carpenter, Lee- Carol and Nancy
Stark and Franklin- Eric
Groll- Verandah
Maplehurst- Mary Jo
Christ Church- Scouts
