Revised Special Meeting Agenda

September 25, 2025 6:45 – 8:00 pm at Town Office and on Zoom

The Guilford Conservation Commission will hold a Special Meeting Thursday September 25, at 6:45 pm at the Town Office and on zoom. 

At 6:45 we will convene a brief business meeting to consider the question: Shall we allocate $225 for BCTV to video-record a presentation on Beech Leaf Disease on Friday, October 10, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Broad Brook Community Center?

Starting at 7:00 we will co-sponsor an informational session on the Flood Safety Act with the Planning Commission.  Alison Spasyk of the Vermont Center for EcoStudies will be our guest for a remote presentation about how the Flood Safety Act impacts communities, with emphasis on what it means for Guilford.  We welcome the public to attend, especially landowners with property adjacent to streams and rivers.

The Flood Safety Act implements a whole-watershed approach to mitigating flood-related impacts via new, statewide regulations to address development in high hazard river corridors, strategically removing derelict dams, and increasing wetlands to store excess flood water. Most importantly, it is a crucial step toward preventing further loss of life and property in future storms.

In anticipation of upcoming changes at the state level regarding river corridor protections, Lake Champlain Sea Grant has partnered with The Nature Conservancy, in support of Vermont DEC, to conduct outreach to municipalities. Their aim is to help towns and community members understand the details and timeline for implementation of statewide river corridor protections and answer questions related to the Flood Safety Act.

This Special Meeting replaces our regular September meeting on Sept. 18, which will NOT be held.
