Guilford Recreation Commission Meeting
Thursday, June 8, 2023 – 6:30-7:30 pm

I. Commissioners attending: Mary Wallace-Collins, Kelsy Allen, Elina Kuomjian, Meghan Arthur, Ashley Kane, Chris Zappala

II. Call to Order:  6:33pm

III. New Additions:  
No new additions

IV. Changes to Agenda:
No changes to agenda

V. Approval of Minutes:
Minutes to meeting of 5-17-23 meeting unanimously approved

VI. Finances:
There is a budget of approximately $500 for improvements to the Playscape. The Rec. Commissioners are requesting guidance from the selectboard as to managing finances allotted to their commission. A Commissioner will ask the town clerk and Selectboard Liaison for more information.

VII. Old Business: 
1. Bike Night (all wheels) Guilford Central School 
Bike night is scheduled for June 14th , starting at 5:00.  Commissioners will gather at the school at 4-4:30 to set up.
There will be pizza, and popcorn and drinks provided.
The Rec. Commission will have a can for donations to the event.
There will be a raffle for a bike helmet.
The school will provide tables, chairs and bathroom access.
Commissioners will reach out to Energy commission about bringing Guilford’s new e-bikes for display.
In the case of bad weather, this event will be cancelled in the morning, the day of the event.

2. Playscape- funding for some shade 
The discussion continues on creating a shaded space on the playscape. Commissioners have researched possible designs for such enclosures. Given the current lack of funds for such a structure, the Commission discussed the possibility of combining abilities with other Guilford organizations that use the Playscape.

3. Future Programing with other organizations 
To facilitate further intra-organizational cooperation, the Rec. Commission is organizing a meet/potluck for town groups to meet and explore common interests and cooperation.

VIII. New Business:
1. Guilford Folk reached out about combining efforts for a town-wide Field day
Ragan Beebe and John Shaw of Guilford Folk joined the meeting at 7pm to discuss their similar idea of holding a Field Day for all Community Groups to be a part of. The Field Day would include numerous activities sponsored by the individual organizations as well as, meeting informally and organizing going forward.
July 6th was set as a target date for the event.
The Commission will look into holding it at the Fairgrounds.
